CK Yao is a post-doctoral research fellow and an Accredited Practising Dietitian at the Department of Gastroenterology, Monash University and Alfred Hospital. She has an established track record in dietary research and gastrointestinal diseases, having authored over 25 peer-review articles & book chapters. In 2017, CK completed her PhD investigating the implications of colonic fermentation in functional and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Since then, she has gone on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Hong Kong in the area of diet & functional gut disorders with a leading gastroenterologist in Asia. As an APD, CK has a part-time role in a private gastrointestinal dietetic service. She believes that her research expertise has enabled a more holistic view regarding the utility of diet as a therapeutic tool for gastrointestinal conditions. CK is also is the Secretary of the leadership team for the DAA Gastroenterology IG and holds membership with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, Dietitians Crohn’s & Colitis Australian Network. Recently, CK was awarded the Angela McAvoy Crohn’s Colitis Australia research fellowship which will enable to her actively pursue research into the formulation of therapeutic diets for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
